While we’re still savoring the sweet aroma from yesterday’s Apple Fest, the numbers are being tallied. It’s a safe bet though, that this year’s event was by far THE BEST EVER! It may have been the weather or just the smell of warm Apple Crisp wafting through the city streets or perhaps that Hoosiers have a heart to help their neighbors in need. Whatever it was, we are beyond pleased with the amount of people we saw  enjoying themselves on Monument Circle for Apple Fest 2011.

Proceeds from Apple Fest support The Salvation Army’s Homelessness Bites initiative – which includes programs and services at our Shelter for Women & Children in downtown Indy. Coat donations are also collected at the event, on behalf of WTHRBob Gregory’s Coats for Kids campaign.  Bob joined us yesterday on the Circle, along with WTHR’s Chris Wright. By the end of the event, our coat collection boxes were overflowing with children’s coats. THANK YOU!

A big THANK YOU to Applebee’s for providing the lunch, MCL Restaurant & Bakery for providing the apple crisp, Kroger for providing the ice cream, Two Men And A Truck for purchasing the drinks, Bandwagon for providing the music, and to WIBC and Nuvo for helping us promote this event that will help us continue “Doing the Most Good!”

Further, we’d be remiss to not say THANK YOU to the rest of Apple Fest’s sponsors:

I was looking for community service blogs that did a good job of featuring real issues and posing solutions. I liked this blog because it really involves and reaches out to the community. I think if we ever want to see real change, it is key to really involve those in your direct community. When you go out and have events it catches the attention of people who may not usually get involved. Take Apple Fest 2011, I saw that you did the best you ever have. Pulling people in through events, music, a good cause, and time with your community is the way to go. I often feature different charities in my community in my blog and I think your approach to helping charities like The Salvation Army is not only admirable but very effective. I see so many charities that thrive off their regular events and regular volunteers. Although their efforts are wonderful, actually going out in the community and showing rather than telling people the power of volunteering is not only intriguing but clearly effective. I look forward to seeing what events you have in the future and I commend you on your efforts, please keep up the amazing work!
