New Numbers Continue To Show Increases
The new numbers for homelessness and request for assistance are in and they reflect a dramatic increase in need for assistance in Marion County.
The Salvation Army is now reporting a 15% increase in request for assistance over last year. This is up another 2% from the previous month. There has also been a dramatic increase in the need for shelter. Connect2Help, an organization that connects those needing assistance with those who provide it, said the need for shelter is the number one request received in their call center. CHIP, the Coalition for Homelessness Intervention and Prevention, is also seeing creases in the number of homeless, specifically children. In 2008, children represented 17% of Marion County’s homeless. Today they represent nearly 25% of the homeless population. You can see all the numbers by downloading the report below.
